I was invited to Cabo to experience two properties under the Grand Velas portfolio, one of which was the luxury boutique hotel Mar de Cabo.
This was one of the most unique hotels I’ve stayed at with the exterior being reminiscent of Greek buildings. You’ll be immersed in a white canvas with splashes of blue doors, beautiful mosaic tiles, and colorful bougainvilleas. While I love the cobblestones that add character to the property, I will say this is not the best location for older couples or anyone who has mobility issues since the property is adorned with many stairs. However, this is a wonderful property for couples, solo travelers, or even a girls’ trip.
Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by warm and personable employees who welcomed us with a refreshing drink. I immediately noticed the cozy environment of the lobby complete with a fun pool table, bookshelf, and a view of the majestic Sea of Cortez. After getting settled into our suite, I noticed a fun welcome display of guacamole, chips, salsa, and beers. It is always the smallest details that matter to me and the amenity was both tasty and thoughtful.
The property is equipped with spacious suites complete with kitchenettes, living room space, a separate bedroom, a bathroom and a balcony. Some balconies are equipped with your own hammock which I found to be a nice touch, especially staying true to the Caribbean theme. I had the pleasure of staying in the One Bedroom Ocean Suite and it was the perfect home during my 2 nights there. I love that it gave a familiar home vibe with luxury touches.
The property includes a spacious pool, restaurant, gym, and spa. Unfortunately, the spa was undergoing some renovations when I visited but I didn’t feel its absence. The pool has a swim-up bar so be sure to take advantage of that during your visit. The property also sits on the beach so you do not have to venture far to enjoy what the Caribbean has to offer!
Their restaurant, Encanto offers stunning views of the Sea of Cortez with an extensive menu consisting of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love the little details they added in the decor from the beautiful lanterns dangling from the ceiling to the beachfront vibes in the seating pillows and tables. One of the most memorable parts of the restaurant is its manager, Omar. He always made sure his guests were well taken care of and accommodated your every request to the best of his ability. I always believe that service should be as great as the food and Omar exceeded in his service.
One of the highlights of my stay was the lovely tequila tasting that the hotel prepared for us. I am a big fan of tequila so this was a win for me! We were delighted with three cocktails that were each paired with a different taco. The tasting was hosted by Omar and Chef Mario who kindly took their time to explain the food and drinks for us. Their presence definitely elevated the tasting. It was a perfect evening of good food and drinks while watching the beautiful Mexican sunset. I highly recommend doing this while you are here.
I have more footage saved on my Instagram highlight under “Velas Resorts” so be sure to check that out.
I hope you found this post helpful and I’ve convinced you to book your stay at Mar del Cabo. It certainly is a wonderful property to experience.
This is such a cute hotel! When would you recommend is the best time to visit Cabo?

Hi Emily, I’d say the best time to visit is end of October-April as it avoids hurricane season.
